Parents in the Process

At Brookfield Academy, we believe parents are the ultimate educators of their children. We express our value in the role of parents with “The Academy Triangle” which represents the combined efforts of parents, teachers, and students working together to achieve academic excellence and strong moral character.

 

Parents are the primary educators of their children, responsible for the character development of each individual child. But we know Brookfield Academy must play a fundamental role in the character development of its students.

 

Whether a student begins as a four-year-old in Brookfield Academy’s pre-kindergarten program or enters as a freshman, parents are first introduced to an admissions advisor who educates them on the important role they play in their child’s development. 

 

Ongoing and consistent parent/teacher communication is a vital part of our character education program. Assignment notebooks are used in the Primary, Lower, and Middle Schools as a tool for communication. 

Comment reports are written for students at various points during the year. Parent/teacher conferences are held twice per year with the same goal in mind. Beyond these scheduled lines of communication, teachers often contact parents by phone or e-mail.

 

Accessibility is a key component for all involved in the Triangle. Parents have access to the home phone numbers of all staff, and can contact them by e-mail. There is an open-door policy that welcomes parents to visit a classroom or an administrator’s office at any time. Parents are encouraged to be equally accessible by attending morning assemblies, participating in school events, reading the weekly newsletter, and attending all scheduled conferences. Teachers make every effort to respond to a parent’s e-mail or phone message within 24 hours and to contact parents with good news as often as possible.

 

Brookfield Academy also offers educational opportunities for parents such as seminars, discussion groups, and book discussions focusing on promoting the character development of students.
